Día de América en Asturias 2026: 3,500 participants and 50 sequences parade through Oviedo

Inastour

The Día de América en Asturias returns to Oviedo with more than 3,500 participants in its 74th edition.

The parade brings together half a hundred sequences, thirteen floats and representations of ten countries.

For the first time the flag of Guam will march, alongside a caravel scored by Pipo Prendes.

The great procession is one of the most crowded events of San Mateo and will set off at five in the afternoon on Saturday from Independencia street, continuing along Uría, Marqués de Santa Cruz, Santa Susana, avenida de Galicia and plaza de América.

Music, folklore, historical vehicles and Asturian tradition will once again build a bridge between the two shores of the Atlantic, in a deployment described by the organisation as one of the most extensive of the festivities.

DÍA DE AMÉRICA IN ASTURIAS: THE NEW FEATURES OF THE 2026 PARADE

The 74th edition adds a flag that had never taken part in the parade before. The ensign of the island of Guam, in the Pacific, will be incorporated for the first time, a territory where, according to the parade director, a colony of Asturians lives.

Another new image will be a caravel promoted by the Fundación Cajastur, FICA and the SOF, conceived as a symbol of the voyages between Asturias and America, with a score written expressly for the occasion.

MUSIC, GAITAS AND THE INTERNATIONAL BLOCKS OF THE PARADE

The historic Alsa buses will open the parade once again, giving way to the "haigas". In the first stretches, tribute will be paid to the Policía Local for its daily work in the Asturian capital, and members of the Federación Asturiana de Kárate will carry the flags of Hispano-America.

Music will run through almost the entire procession, with groups from Oviedo, Tineo, Luarca, Castrillón, Avilés and Laviana, a fusion of bands from Siero and the Banda de Música del Principado.

DÍA DE AMÉRICA IN ASTURIAS: COUNTRIES AND TRADITIONS ON SHOW

› Mexico: a float accompanied by the Mariachi Femenil Innovación Mexicana.
› Paraguay: guest country of the edition, with its own float and cultural sequence.
› Venezuela: returns after several years of absence.

ASTURIAN TRADITION: VAQUEIROS, FOLKLORE AND THE CHEESE FLOAT

The association Vaqueiros de Alzada and the Museo Las Ayalgas will take to the streets the float "El Teito", dedicated to the ways of life, trades and ethnographic heritage of the vaqueiros. The block "Asturies ye tradición" will bring together Inmaculada, Xuno, Noceu, Hedra, Filandón and Trasgu.

The floats will once again be one of the great attractions. Valdesoto will contribute two, one from the Peña Cotiellos and another from El Chole, which will bring to Oviedo the winning float of the 2026 contest, dedicated to emigration.

ASTURIAN GASTRONOMY AND HERITAGE IN THE PARADE

› Cheeses: a float dedicated to Asturian cheeses, as a tribute to artisan production.
› Rural world: recognition of livestock farming and the Asturian countryside.
› Siero: takes part with "En el centro de Asturias. Siero, un lugar para vivir".
› Cabranes: a proposal paying homage to the characters of Alfonso Iglesias.
› Other groups: La Regalina, Asociación Cultural Almuña, Aires de Asturias and Xeitu.

For InasTour, celebrations such as the Día de América en Asturias show international buyers the depth of a region whose traditions remain alive in its streets.

The Día de América en Asturias 2026 will close with Policía Nacional, Protección Civil and an ambulance, a device the programme separates from the fifty festive sequences. From the memory of emigration to folklore, music and gastronomy, the 74th edition once again turns Oviedo into the meeting point of the communities on both shores of the Atlantic.
